How much is my iPhone worth in the UK in 2026?

June 2026

What determines an iPhone's trade-in value?

Four factors determine what a UK recycler will pay for your iPhone in 2026:

Model — newer iPhones are worth significantly more. The iPhone 16 Pro Max can fetch over £800 in excellent condition. The iPhone 11, which launched in 2019, typically fetches £60-£100.

Condition — this is the biggest variable. An iPhone in pristine condition can be worth 25-40% more than the same model with visible wear. Recyclers grade phones as Excellent, Good, or Faulty.

Storage size — a 256GB iPhone is typically worth £30-£60 more than the 128GB version. 512GB and 1TB models carry a further premium.

Timing — iPhone prices fall sharply around Apple's annual September launch. The best time to sell is generally May to August, before rumours intensify and prices drop. Read our full guide on timing your iPhone sale.

How condition affects your offer

Most recyclers use three grades:

Excellent — no scratches or marks on the screen or body. Looks as close to new as possible. Gets the highest price.

Good — fully working with visible signs of use. Light scratches on the body or screen. Typically 15-25% less than Excellent.

Faulty — powers on but has a fault such as a cracked screen, broken Face ID or battery below 80%. Typically 50-65% less than Excellent. Some recyclers will not accept faulty phones — check before posting.

Tips to maximise what you get

1. Compare multiple recyclers. The difference between the highest and lowest offer for the same phone can be £50 or more. GadgetRank shows you every major recycler side by side — compare your iPhone now.

2. Sell before September. Apple's annual iPhone launch causes trade-in prices to drop 12-18% in the weeks that follow. If you can sell before the keynote, you will get more.

3. Be honest about condition. Recyclers inspect every device. If you describe it as Excellent but it arrives in Good condition, your offer will be revised — or the phone returned.

4. Sign out of iCloud first. An iCloud-locked iPhone is worthless to a recycler. Go to Settings → your name → Sign Out before you post.

5. Include the original box if you have it. Some recyclers offer a small bonus for original packaging and accessories.

Is it better to sell privately?

Private sale via eBay, Facebook Marketplace or Gumtree can get you 10-20% more than a recycler — but it comes with effort and risk. You need to photograph the device, write a listing, answer buyer messages, arrange postage, and protect yourself against fraudulent buyers.

For most people, the convenience and speed of a recycler more than justifies the small price difference. For high-value phones (iPhone 15 Pro and above), the gap narrows further as recycler prices have become increasingly competitive.
